Pheonix is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Arizona, as well as the fifth most populated city in the United States with around 1.5m. Phoenix has the hottest climate of any major city in the United States with average temperatures of over 100°F (37.8°C) for three months out of the year, and can reach over 120°F (48.9°C) on occasion.
After spending the night in the hotel we had to wait until around 10pm the next night to catch the next bus. We weren't too fussed as we thought we would use the time to have a look around the city. Seeing as it is the 5th most populated city in the country we thought it would be huge but to our surprise it consisted of a few tower blocks, a university, a Subway, a couple of pubs and a cinema! To make matters worse it was Easter Sunday and it was like a ghost town. When we walked into town in the morning we passed around 5 people and it was just surreal. To pass the day we ended up going to the cinema and sitting around on various park benches throughout the city where we got funny looks from the town secutity guards who were mainly the only other people about! We did manage to find a huge cactus though.
